TEACHERS CORNER

The Burn Prevention Network and Tobacco Free Northeast PA invite students in grades 4-8 in the ten counties of the Northeast Health District to participate in our Annual Poster Contest. Please read the rules carefully, as only posters that meet the contest rules will be considered.
ELIGIBILITY
- Contest is open to students in grades 4-8 in the following Pennsylvania counties: Carbon, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe, Northampton, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming.
- Entries must follow all guidelines, and must include name, address, age, school, grade, parental information, and written consent of parent or guardian to be eligible.

REDUCING RISK: Understanding the Adolescent Brain - January 16, 2012
Program Description: Recent studies have shown remarkable changes that occur in the brain during the teen years.
Target Audience: Student assistant liaisons, school administrators, guidance counselors, school board members, school resource officers, and teachers.
Educational Objectives: At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to:
- Outline the key developmental changes in the adolescent brain
- Describe the risk of tobacco and other drug use on the developing adolescent brain
- Articulate a comprehensive plan for addressing tobacco use in schools
- Locate resources for sharing information about adolescent brain development with parents and staff

This comprehensive, Pennsylvania specific Toolkit includes tools, templates and information on implementing effective policies and procedures to promote a tobacco free school. Endorsed by PA Department of Education, the Toolkit is designed for administrators, counselors, social workers, student assistance professionals and educators. The Toolkit will assist you in implementing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Guidelines for School Health Programs to Prevent Tobacco Use and Addition.
